Catholic Charities Maine Needs Help: Welcoming New Mainers: An important part of Catholic Charities Maine’s (CCM) work is dedicated to carrying out the words of Matthew 25 to welcome the stranger. Since 1975, CCM’s Refugee and Immigration Services (RIS) has helped those fleeing violence and persecution acclimate to life in America, becoming independent, productive members of our community. We Need Volunteers! Newcomers to Maine need plenty of community support, and CCM seeks volunteers to join its Refugee Welcome Team to help new arrivals in Lewiston, Portland/Southern Maine area, and Fairfield/Greater Augusta area. The specific tasks for welcoming new Mainers and helping them transition to new homes depend on each individual or family needs, and the possibilities and hours are quite varied. But every hour you can spend makes an enormous difference in the lives of new Mainers. The kindness and generosity of our community is essential to their success. For more information, visit Welcome the Stranger. To get your volunteer process started, please contact Kelly Day, Director of Volunteer Services at [email protected] or (207) 523-1152. Thank you in advance for extending a helping hand to New Mainers and supporting this critical work.
